Born in 1962 in the USA. Her mother is an immigrant from the Dominican Republic, and her father is Lebanese-American.
She studied social communication at the University of Michigan, while also attending the College of Drama. After graduating from university, she joined the Chicago Theater Company. In 1991 and 1994, she was awarded several regional theater awards as the best actress.
